HUSH!! SEX EDUCATION

Sex is often a hush-hush topic. Yet, ironically, it’s something almost everyone engages in—evidenced once kids enter the picture! But why is it treated like a secret?

In our country, sex education is often brushed aside, leaving most of us to figure things out through gossip in school, internet searches, or awkward conversations with older cousins. While some of the information may be accurate, much of it is misinterpreted or incomplete. Sex isn’t openly discussed, which only adds to the confusion.

Today, podcasts, movies, and the internet offer a wealth of information on sex, but the question is: how do you filter through it all and make sense of it? The truth is, the best way to learn about sex is to explore it for yourself. Discovering your own preferences and understanding your body is the first step.

A startling survey revealed that 48% of college-going girls couldn’t even locate their vagina. If that’s the starting point, how can we expect to have healthy conversations about pleasure and intimacy? Masturbation is one form of self-love, but it’s also a way to learn about your own body. No amount of Googling will truly help you understand what you like until you try it yourself.

It’s time to break free from the secrecy surrounding sex. Give yourself permission to seek pleasure with an open mind. Read, listen, and experiment. By doing so, you’ll build a better understanding of your body and sexuality—no more "hush-hush.
